A lot of people have heard the name Reiki, but many still don’t know what Reiki is or what it means.
Reiki, pronounced ‘ray-key’, means “life force energy,” it is also known as “Prana” in Sanskrit. The Art of Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing technique for energy healing. Reiki is based on the belief that a practitioner has the ability to channel energy into another person by means of touch along with positive intention. This activates the healing process that helps to restore the body, mind and spirit, leaving you with an overall feeling of balance, calmness and the overall feeling of being grounded.
The Reiki Sanskrit symbols are thought to be thousands of years old. They were rediscovered in Japan in the late 1800’s by a Japanese healer, Mikao Usui and are the foundation of the practice of the Usui System of Natural Healing.
As a reiki practitioner, I can tell you through experience as both client and practitioner, that Reiki is a powerful source that can fill you with a loving, pure energy. It assists in the stimulation of issues you may have gone through previously in your life; and will leave you feeling balanced, calm and grounded. I know this sounds very “woo-woo” but Reiki is pretty straightforward and can have incredible effects in your body and mind.
First and foremost, Reiki practitioners are not mind readers or psychics, they cannot see into your soul nor can they identify secrets about you. A Reiki practitioner will, however, get an overall sense of your energy during a treatment, but generally the practitioner will not know why your energy may be stronger in some chakras over others.
Although the reiki session is performed on a massage table while you listen to music or sounds, no traditional massage occurs. Clients are fully clothed and there is some touching as both, hands on and hands off techniques are performed. The session typically lasts one hour.
There are a multitude of benefits from having a Reiki session which include, but are not limited to, the following results; stress-reduction; lessening of anxiety, relaxation, restoration at the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level. Reiki promotes the ability to deal with the grieving process. Further, Reiki can assist in the recovery of acute and chronic illnesses, balancing of the endocrine and nervous systems, release of emotional and spiritual blockages and also can provide an increase of energy, joy and creativity.
Reiki compliments all healing art practices like yoga, meditation, reflexology and massage. Reiki is a relaxing, nurturing and a non-invasive form of holistic health, adapting to the needs of the individual, making each session unique.
When energy is flowing freely in our bodies, we can experience health, happiness and energy. Reiki assists in the balancing of the inner life force, which enhances the mind, body and spirit connection.
The bottom line is that Reiki is a simple, effective, safe way of promoting emotional, spiritual and physical balance of mind body and spirit. Reiki is a positive approach that proposes the ability to create an abundant life.
The best way to understand the benefits of Reiki is to experience a treatment yourself, I’m positive you will be glad you did!
